Carrick optimistic on future
Michael Carrick thinks the future is looking bright for England ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.
The Manchester United midfielder believes there is plenty of talent coming through, and is excited by a possible international strike partnership between his club team-mate Danny Welbeck and Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge.
"They are two top, top players," he told Sky Sports News. "They have slightly different strengths, but are equally as good.
"I see a lot of talent, an awful lot of talent, among the boys that are in the squad this week. There is so much talent there. The Under-21s had a great result last time out (a 6-0 win against Scotland).
"There's a lot being said about it (the lack of quality English players), some positive, probably a lot more negative of late, but I think it's easy to get carried away either way.
"I think you have to have a balanced view. I'm really confident there is a lot of talent in this country to come though this season and for the years after."
Carrick also warned against complacency on Friday when England take on Moldova at Wembley - a team they beat 5-0 in the reverse fixture.
"We won't be complacent at all," he added. "That result (the 5-0 win) was a terrific result, but that's gone. Nothing we can take from that going into the game, it's a whole new scenario.
"Different game completely and complacency won't be an issue, I can assure you of that.
"They are all pivotal you can't look too far ahead.
"As players we think about the next game, you have to. It's hard enough winning games at this level. If you are not putting in all your efforts, you're not going to do yourself justice, your fellow players and your county, so that's really not an issue for us."

Ozil transfer surprises Low
Germany coach Joachim Low admits he is surprised Real Madrid let Mesut Ozil join Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
Midfielder Ozil made the move to north London for £42.4million on Monday to become one of the marquee signings of the summer transfer window.
But Low, who is with his team as they prepare to play Austria in a World Cup qualifier in Munich on Friday, described the decision to sell the Germany international as "incomprehensible."
"Many Real players like Sami Khedira or Cristiano Ronaldo are sad about the transfer," he said.
"For me, it's incomprehensible that Real would sell one of their top scorers."
Low feels the move could be good for the player and his national side though and backed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to get the best out of the 24-year-old.
"I think that Mesut is a sensitive player who needs a lot of trust from the club and the coach," added Low.
"What I've heard the last days before this transfer, is that this trust had disappeared in Madrid. Arsenal and Wenger put a lot of effort in to get him, which did him, of course, a lot of good.
"That's why I think personally for us, for the national team, it's a good transfer. Arsenal is a good club, with a top manager and also with two German team-mates, (Lukas) Podolski and (Per) Mertesacker.
"Arsenal also play great football, technically on a high level, and I think that plays into Mesut's game."
Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, now at Real's bitter rivals Barcelona, also expressed surprise that Ozil had been allowed to leave the Bernabeu.
"I was really surprised by Ozil's departure," he told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
"He seemed to me the second-best player at Madrid, after Cristiano (Ronaldo). He'll be great for Arsenal."

United move thrills Fellaini
Marouane Fellaini says he "jumped at the chance" to work with
David Moyes again after sealing his switch from Everton to Manchester
United.
It was just after 2am on Tuesday morning, three hours after the transfer window closed, that United confirmed the £27.5m deal had finally been done.
Belgium international midfielder Fellaini follows Moyes from Goodison Park to Old Trafford having first linked up with him in September 2008, when he joined Everton for an initial fee of £15m from Standard Liege.
"I have worked with Marouane for five years and I'm delighted he has decided to join Manchester United," said Moyes.
"He is a player with great ability and strength and I think he will make a real difference to our squad."
The 25-year-old had a £23.5m release clause in his Toffees contract but that expired on 31 July. With Moyes having allowed that to lapse, United have ended up paying £4m more for his services.
The Fellaini fee is the fourth highest transfer in United's history, ahead of Wayne Rooney and behind only Dimitar Berbatov, Rio Ferdinand and Juan Sebastian Veron.
His 12 goals for Everton last term underline the goal threat he can provide given, other than Shinji Kagawa, who scored six times, no midfielder managed more than two strikes for the Red Devils last term.
After securing his move, Fellaini said: "I am thrilled to sign for Manchester United.
"I have known the manager for many years now and I have a lot of respect for his way of working.
"When I was given the opportunity to work with him again, I jumped at the chance.
"I had a fantastic time at Everton and I'd like to thank all the fans and staff there for everything they have done for me.
"But being a Manchester United player is something that every player dreams of and I believe that I can make a real contribution to the team's efforts to win trophies in the future."
Fellaini, who also tweeted his appreciation to Everton fans, will now link up with the Belgium squad ahead of their World Cup qualifying Group A match against Scotland at Hampden on Friday night.
He is set to make his United debut in the Premier League clash at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, September 14.
